Byram Hills Education Foundation donation funds low ropes course for middle school

The Byram Hills Central School District Board of Education on Dec. 10 accepted a donation from the Byron Hills Education Foundation (BHEF) to fund a low ropes course located behind the Crittendon site (HCC) for use by sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.
Jen, speaking for the program, told the board the low ropes course allows the district to host team-building activities in-district rather than transporting students to outside facilities. "We were able to put a low ropes course at HCC, which is used by our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders," Jen said. She said district teachers have been trained to run activities on the course.
Jen also told the board that the Byron Hills Education Foundation recently pledged a $1,000,000 donation to the LIGHTS Learning Action (as described during the meeting) and has continued to fund classroom and program grants for the district. The board accepted the donation by voice vote during the consent/business agenda.
The district said the course will be used as part of physical-education and team-building units at the middle-school level. No specific operating or maintenance costs were provided during the meeting; donors and foundation representatives were thanked during the public business portion.
