Lenoir County Public Schools staff presented two draft instructional calendars and reported that a districtwide committee and stakeholder vote favored “Option A,” the district’s recommended calendar, by nearly 70 percent of more than 900 votes.
Assistant/Director Mrs. Harris told the board that representatives from every school and department participated in the calendar committee. Two calendar versions — Option A (green) and Option B (blue) — were posted for stakeholder input; administrators said both drafts comply with state start and end date requirements and required instructional minutes. The primary practical difference cited was work days before graduation in June: Option A offers additional teacher work days intended to give staff buffer time as the district transitions its student information system from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus.
Mrs. Harris said the district received over 900 votes from schools, departments and central services, and that Option A received almost 70 percent. She recommended the board consider Option A; the calendar will appear as a formal action item at the board’s next meeting.
The presentation also noted that the Early College High School follows a separate calendar aligned to the community college schedule. Board members asked clarifying questions about limited flexibility in calendar design because state laws set start and stop dates, required instructional minutes and required work days.
