The Nash County Board of Education on Dec. 5 authorized district staff to begin collaborating with Nash County commissioners and other parties to pursue next steps in securing a site for a proposed Southern Nash Middle School.
Board member Johnson, chairing the Administrative Services and Operations Committee, said the committee recommended that Angie Miller and her staff begin that collaboration. After a motion and a second, the board voted in favor of the recommendation. The motion directs district staff to open talks with county officials and other stakeholders about securing the site; the vote was recorded as approved without additional conditions at the meeting.
The committee also reviewed the district’s 2023–24 financial audit. Finance presenter (Saunders) told the board that one audit finding concerned account reconciliations. Saunders said the district will assign a staff member to perform monthly reconciliations of all bank accounts and ensure those reconciliations meet auditors’ standards going forward. "Going forward, they will be done monthly and for all bank accounts," Saunders said.
The authorization to begin collaboration on the Southern Nash site was presented as a committee recommendation and carried by voice vote. The audit discussion was informational; the board recorded the corrective step (monthly reconciliations) but did not take a separate formal vote on the reconciliation plan during the meeting.
