The Wyoming City Council on Dec. 2 approved a one-year, one-time professional services contract with Sabo PR to prepare marketing and public relations materials for the Godwin Mercado, the city’s new public marketplace.
City staff described the contract as a time-limited engagement that will create foundational messaging, content and collateral, handle digital advertising and help develop a standalone website for the Mercado. Mary Anne Sabo, founder and president of Sabo PR, and Brian Greenleaf, senior director at Sabo PR, presented the scope and said the firm will work with city communications staff to prepare materials from now through the Mercado’s grand opening.
City staff told the council the budget for the work was broken into two components during the discussion: roughly $20,000 for professional services and up to $6,000 for website development. Staff described the agreement as a single-year contract to cover pre-opening work and promotional tasks leading into the grand opening; the council approved the contract by roll call (de Krieger, Kosler, Arnaud, Postma and Mayor Kent Vander Wood voting yes; Hill voting no).
Council members asked about longer-term operations and revenue. Krishan (city staff) said a full fee schedule for rentals and vendor fees is being developed and will be brought to council for approval in the spring; staff also said the 2025 budget already includes preliminary revenue and expense estimates for the Mercado. Councilmember Rob Postma and others asked when reservations would begin; staff said reservations would open following the city’s normal park-facility schedule, with January 2026 listed as the first date for reservations and a full farmer’s-market season expected in spring 2026, while the city plans limited special-event activations beginning in fall 2025.
Sabo PR indicated its work will prioritize consistent messaging that staff and councilmembers can reuse across brochures, social media, email newsletters and digital advertising to help the Mercado move toward year-round activity and rental revenue. The contract is described in the agenda as a one-time, not ongoing, engagement.
Motion to approve the contract was made and seconded during the meeting; the roll-call vote approved the contract (5–1).
