The Town of Selma Tourism Advisory Board voted by consensus Dec. 19 to recommend reallocating a $2,000 town social-media line item to the Johnston County Visitors Bureau to expand digital advertising and to approve revised marketing copy for an upcoming campaign.
Donna, a representative of the Johnston County Visitors Bureau, told the committee the bureau had been working from a budget that included $3,000 for Google and Facebook advertising. Donna said her staff had paused a Facebook carousel ad that had been generating roughly 3,500–4,000 clicks per month and requested $300 per month to continue that carousel and $300 per month for a Google “performance max” campaign (about $10 per day for each platform).
The committee discussed an existing $2,000 town line item described as “town council social media,” which Donna and other members said was not currently being used by the bureau. After discussion, a member moved to recommend reallocating the $2,000 to the Visitors Bureau so the bureau could run the social campaigns; a second was made and the motion was approved by the committee as a recommendation to council.
The committee also reviewed a proposed visitor guide; Donna reported a printing quote of $4,000 for 10,000 copies and said she had put $4,500 in the draft to cover taxes and shipping. Separately, the board voted to change the headline copy on a piece of marketing collateral to “Spring into Selma.” That wording change was approved by motion and second.
Board members agreed that the budget figures and event plan should be presented to town council for approval. A special follow-up meeting was scheduled for early January at 9 a.m. to finalize materials for council; the committee said it will bring a revised budget package and sponsorship materials at that meeting.
No recorded roll-call vote totals were taken in the meeting transcript; actions were recorded as motions, seconds and committee consensus or approval. The committee noted final expenditures and contracts will require council authorization and that timing for some advertising lines corresponds to the town’s fiscal schedule.
