St. Francois County commissioners authorized the county IT director to solicit sealed bids for a new exterior camera system at the Road & Bridge facility to improve coverage and help deter vandalism and theft.
Nick Jones, the county IT director, told commissioners the current system is antiquated and did not cover areas added during facility expansions. "We're just looking to offer sealed bids for a new camera system for the road and bridge," Jones said, describing the planned system as IP-based and capable of clearer images and automated alerts.
Commissioners said the Road & Bridge yard has experienced fence cutting and theft and that staff have tried clearing brush and trees to reduce hiding places. Jones said the new cameras would provide improved coverage and could send alerts when activity is detected. The commission approved permission to solicit sealed bids by voice vote.
The discussion noted the purpose was to secure bids; no vendor or contract award was made at the meeting. The commission directed IT to proceed with the procurement process.
