Borsch said the session opened Jan. 8 and that by Jan. 20 roughly 140 bills had been introduced. He said the Joint Budget Committee had told state departments to seek deeper cuts amid a projected state budget shortfall that Borsch described as ranging from roughly $670 million up to $1 billion. "The general rule or statement that I've heard from the JBC is they've gone back to every department and said, you're not cutting enough, cut more," Borsch said.
