Douglas County approves IGAs to form 23rd Judicial District Community Corrections Board

Scott Matson, director of Community Justice Services, told the Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 17 that staff sought approval of two intergovernmental agreements and a resolution to establish a 23rd Judicial District Community Corrections Board and to formalize continued use of community corrections programs in Arapahoe County. "Community corrections is an alternative to prison for felony offenders. It provides transitional level supervision that is less than the Department of Corrections, but more structured than probation and parole," Matson said.
Matson said the Colorado Department of Criminal Justice oversees community corrections statewide by setting standards, training and allocating placement funds. Andrew Steers of the county attorney's office, who authored the documents, summarized the joint intergovernmental agreement with Elbert and Lincoln counties that creates the district board and the related agreement for referrals to Arapahoe County facilities.
Commissioners thanked staff and partner counties for the work to form the new district and asked no substantive questions. The board then moved and seconded approval of appointments to the Community Corrections Board and the referral IGA. Both measures were adopted by voice vote.
