Richland County launches comprehensive-plan website, schedules Dec. 16 public forum

Richland County planning staff announced Dec. 3 that the county's comprehensive-plan website is live and will accept public input ahead of a series of public forums.
CP&D Director Senithia Williams told the council, "The comprehensive plan website is now live," and provided two URLs for access. She said the public can complete an online survey, post ideas to an interactive map, and find meeting information on the site. The first public forum is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 16 at the Richland County Library main branch downtown from 5 to 7 p.m.; the event is a drop-in format with stations and printed surveys.
Why it matters: The comprehensive plan is the county's long-range framework for growth, development and conservation. Staff said broad and diverse public input is needed to inform baseline data and future planning decisions.
Councilmembers asked whether additional forums would be scheduled across the county; Williams said staff plans multiple sessions, that neighborhood-improvement staff will take materials to community meetings, and that planners will attend town-hall or neighborhood events on request. Williams also confirmed the online survey mirrors the hard-copy survey that will be at public forums and that the survey will remain open for several weeks.
Staff said they will resend flyers and the QR code to council to help publicize the forum. Council members requested that staff intentionally host additional neighborhood sessions to increase turnout.
What's next: Staff will continue outreach, provide printed materials to council members on request, and compile survey results to inform the comprehensive-plan process.
