Planning commission approves Swanson subdivision, vacates portion of Ramona Street
Summary
The Petersburg Borough Planning Commission approved a final plat for the Swanson major subdivision at 1320 Nordic Drive and vacated a portion of the Ramona Street right-of-way, attaching that ROW to Lot 1A rather than Lot 10B after owners raised a right-of-first-refusal concern.

The Petersburg Borough Planning Commission voted to approve a final plat for the Swanson major subdivision at 1320 Nordic Drive and to vacate a portion of the Ramona Street right-of-way, attaching that right-of-way to Lot 1A.
The decision followed a brief presentation and clarification from surveyor Dave Tinas, who introduced himself: “You guys know me, Dave Tinas. I'm the surveyor involved with that project.” A planning staff speaker explained the change from the previously approved version, saying the difference was that the original plan consolidated Ramona Street with Lot 10B but, after discussions with the owners and because Lot 10B is subject to a right-of-first-refusal agreement with a neighbor, the right-of-way will instead be consolidated with Lot 1A.
Why it matters: the change preserves the owners’ desire not to alter Lot 10B because of the right-of-first-refusal agreement while still vacating the ROW and attaching it to an adjacent lot. The commission recorded the motion, found the proposal straightforward and approved it with a roll call.
The motion was made to approve the Swanson subdivision including vacation of a portion of the Ramona Street right-of-way, along with the findings of fact and conditions of approval as presented. After discussion and a roll-call vote, the commission approved the final plat.
Clarifying details captured during the hearing included the subdivision address (1320 Nordic Drive), the parcels referenced (Lot 10B and Lot 1A), and that Lot 10B is subject to a right-of-first-refusal agreement with an adjoining property owner. The commission record indicates the change was limited to which lot the vacated ROW would attach to; no other changes to the plat were described.
The commission did not identify any outstanding conditions beyond the stated findings of fact and conditions of approval; staff and the applicant indicated the matter was otherwise straightforward. The subdivision approval is effective as recorded in the commission minutes and will proceed to any subsequent administrative steps required by borough code.
