The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee voted 3-0 on Feb. 13 to forward a resolution recommending that the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) issue a Type 90 on‑sale general music venue liquor license for Urban Life Inc., doing business as Neck of the Woods, at 406 Clement Street.
The committee’s recommendation would determine that issuance of the license would serve the public convenience or necessity under California Business and Professions Code section 23958.4 and asks the ABC to impose conditions on the license.
Committee Chair Supervisor Matt Dorsey opened the item and said the application is in District 1 and that Supervisor Chan’s office had no issues with the permit. Chair Dorsey said planning and the Alcoholic Beverage Control liaison unit recommended the revision. Officer Freunds of the San Francisco Police Department’s ABC liaison unit was introduced but did not speak on the item, and no applicant representative appeared at the hearing.
There was no public comment. Chair Dorsey moved that the clerk prepare a resolution making the determination that issuance of the license would serve the public convenience or necessity and forward the measure to the full Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation. The committee approved the motion on a roll call of Vice Chair Bilal Mahmood, Supervisor Danny Sauter and Chair Dorsey (3 ayes).
The resolution referenced an earlier document, Resolution No. 527-24, and specifically seeks the ABC’s issuance rather than a transfer, per the language read at the hearing. The committee record indicates no letters of support or protest were entered for this item at the time of the meeting.
