Board reviews midyear LCAP update showing mixed academic metrics and attendance dip

District staff presented the district’s midyear update on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), describing implementation status for goals on staffing, academic strategies and school climate.
"I've included all of the metrics," Chantelle, the LCAP presenter, told trustees, noting the update follows state requirements introduced by Senate bill changes. Chantelle said the packet lists baselines, desired three-year outcomes and midyear status for many performance measures.
On academics, the presentation noted modest growth on SBAC-aligned measures and a district goal of improving performance by about three points per year, a benchmark the presenters said they are considering formally adopting. The update also covered English learner progress: the district’s EL reclassification rate was listed at 5.4% midyear, with presenters cautioning the number could change by year end.
On climate and attendance, Chantelle said the district’s midyear daily attendance rate stood at 95.6%. "That's right now. That is what it is," she said in response to a trustee question. The district reported a recent dip in attendance and attributed some of that to widespread illness, noting chronic absenteeism remains above target but improved from prior years.
Financially, staff said the first interim report received a positive certification, indicating the district can meet obligations for the current year and the following two years, and thanked business office staff for preparing the report. Presenter Katie was specifically credited for preparing the interim report.
Board members asked clarifying questions but did not take formal action on the LCAP midyear update; Chantelle said some metrics are still in progress and that the LCAP will be finalized in the coming months as survey and testing data are completed.
