Committee hears several informational updates: Diamond Park field house, electric buses, and lead service line inventory mailing

Staff reported that the Diamond Park field house project came in under budget with $200,000 returned to the supporting CIP, that six of seven ordered electric buses have arrived and charging infrastructure contracts are in place, and that a required federal lead service line inventory mailing will be sent again to meet compliance.
At the close of the Dec. 2 meeting, engineering staff provided several informational updates.
Staff reported the Diamond Park field house project was completed under budget; approximately $200,000 will be returned to the field support CIP. On transit, the city has received six of seven ordered electric buses and has contracts in place for charging infrastructure; two mobile chargers are scheduled to arrive this month and staff expect some electric buses to enter revenue service in the coming month. Staff said initial bids for buses and chargers came in under estimates, keeping the program within budget.
Staff also reminded the committee that the lead service line inventory mailing is a federal requirement and not optional. Because the initial response rate to earlier mailers was low, the city will perform another mailing to comply with federal rules developed after the Flint, Michigan lead crisis.
