"This grant will allow us to have special guest performers over the summer programs, materials for programs," Lewis said, noting the grant cannot be used for incentive prizes but does support promotional costs.
Why it matters: Lewis said the funding, combined with donations and Friends‑of‑the‑Library support, helps prevent the “summer reading slide” by improving programming and attendance.
Board action: Trustee Ward moved to ratify the $10,000 LSTA mini grant; Trustee Henry seconded. The board approved the ratification on a voice vote.
Implementation: Lewis said the grant will be used to book performers, buy materials, and expand outreach for the summer learning challenge. He requested trustees’ help with promotion and noted the Friends of the Library and other donors will continue to supplement programming.
