With ESSER funds ending, Haddonfield considers pay‑to‑play model for summer enrichment

Gino (staff member) told the board that ESSER funds "have dried up," and said the extended school year (ESY) program — a separate mandated summer service — is not affected. The enrichment program, which includes arts and other elective offerings, is currently unfunded. Staff identified three main hurdles if the district continues enrichment: securing building space for programs, covering unbudgeted expenses, and the policy question of whether the district should run fee‑based summer classes.
Preliminary parent‑tuition estimates presented to the board ranged from $75 to $175 per student; staff characterized those numbers as preliminary. Gino said if the board chooses to continue enrichment without district funding, the program would likely be fee based.
District staff said the finance committee will discuss options at its next meeting and present recommendations to the board. No decision was made at the meeting.
