The Queen Anne's County Board of Education announced Jan. 15 that Superintendent Dr. Salins has notified the board she will not seek reappointment when her current contract ends on June 30, 2025.
Board President Bent read a statement in open session saying Salins had shared the decision during closed session and noting her 33 years of service to public education in Maryland and four years with Queen Anne's County Public Schools. “In the coming weeks, the board will begin the process of selecting a new superintendent to serve after Dr. Salins’ term expires,” the statement said.
Why it matters: The board will need to begin a superintendent search and transition process ahead of the July 1, 2025 contract expiration, and the announcement came as the district faces budgeting and implementation decisions tied to the state education “blueprint” and grant funding.
What was said: The superintendent’s decision was announced by the board during open session after a closed session summary in which the board cited General Provisions Article 3-305(b) as the legal basis for holding the closed meeting on personnel and legal advice matters.
What’s next: The board said it will keep the public updated and begin the selection process in the coming weeks.
