Mike Perry presented a request for an easement-width variance Jan. 14 as part of a land split for a family homestead, asking the county to reduce a required 60-foot easement to 30 feet.
Perry told the Development Review Committee his parcel split would create a homestead site for his son and that millings and a recently removed tree stump were already present on the existing easement. He said he has had inspections and is awaiting final direction.
County staff raised technical considerations. Constance Lake (Building Department) asked that any development meet FEMA and county floodplain provisions. Elizabeth Back (Planning Department) said she had no comment on the variance request itself but noted a concurrent application for family hardship relief. Cathy Vanzant (Environmental Health) requested the applicant ensure well setbacks of 75 feet are maintained. Amanda Bauman (Fire) said the easement decision must result in a width adequate for emergency apparatus, and that Fire would work with development services to determine an appropriate width.
Tabitha Bostick, chairing the meeting, said staff would take the feedback to the county engineer and county manager and follow up with a final determination. No formal variance decision was recorded at the DRC meeting; staff said they would notify the applicant after consulting the county engineer.
