Commission tables most committee reappointments for 30 days to solicit additional applicants

The Board of County Commissioners discussed annual committee reappointments on Jan. 14 and voted unanimously to table numerous items so the county can solicit additional applicants and clarify distinctions between "at-large" and "BCC appointee" seats.
County attorney staff described the reappointment process and noted that some committees are established by resolution or statute with different appointment rules. The county attorney's office recommended posting an invitation for applicants and returning to the board in the second meeting of February to consider any new applicants against incumbents.
Commissioner Duane Miller's separate, stand-alone application was treated as independent and not part of the tabling motion. Commissioners emphasized that current members continue to serve until successors are appointed and that tabling would avoid creating unnecessary vacancies while allowing wider outreach.
Vice Chairman Loehr moved to table a group of boards (including Beach and Shore Preservation; Children's Services Advisory Committee; Economic Development; Planning & Zoning; and others named in the staff report) until the second meeting in February; the motion, seconded by Commissioner Adams, passed unanimously.
Commissioners said the 30-day window will allow the county to invite applicants, clarify appointment language and confirm terms; staff noted it will post openings and return a consolidated list for reappointment or new appointment at the February meeting.
