At its Jan. 14 meeting the Derby City Council took several routine actions, including adopting the meeting agenda, approving the consent agenda and scheduling the council’s special meeting dates for 2025.
Key outcomes
- Agenda acceptance: Council member Engel moved to approve the meeting agenda as presented; council approved the motion.
- Consent agenda: The council approved seven consent items, including minutes (Dec. 10 and the special meeting on Dec. 31), senior-center donations totaling $710, a $115,000 annual funding agreement with Sedgwick County for the Derby Senior Center, renewal of volunteer transportation services reimbursement with Sedgwick County ($7 per coordinated ride), annexation-related ordinances (right-of-way annexations along Rock Road and a 39.27-acre island annexation for Pleasant View Baptist), and purchase of four replacement park mowers totaling $48,114.12. The consent agenda passed on a motion; the council recorded the consent vote as carrying.
- Special meetings schedule: Council approved moving the Nov. 11, 2025 meeting to Monday, Nov. 10; canceling the June 10 and Dec. 23 regular meetings; and scheduling budget workshops for May 21 and June 10, 2025. The motion carried 8–0.
- Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned by unanimous voice vote.
What was on consent (high level): The Sedgwick County funding agreement continues an annual $115,000 contribution to the Derby Senior Center. The volunteer-transportation renewal coordinates rides for residents ages 55 and older and reimburses the city $7 per coordinated ride by Sedgwick County. The annexation items move forward previously requested county notifications and complete a previously-approved island annexation backed by a prior resolution and county approval.
