The Henrico County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 14 voted to amend the fiscal-year 2024–25 capital plan by $9.5 million to fund school and park projects.
County staff presented the amendment (agenda item 31-25) noting three primary components: $2.9 million in new appropriation to complete the Tuckahoe Middle School auditorium addition (to support an award of contract by the School Board this month), $4.8 million for baseball and softball field improvements at Henrico High School, and remaining funds for parking improvements at Taylor Farm Park.
A county staff member said the board had received a letter on the Tuckahoe auditorium project and that the appropriation, together with previously appropriated resources, will allow the School Board to award the construction contract later in January. The motion to approve the amendment was made and seconded; the board approved the amendment by voice vote.
Why it matters: the amendment provides funding to complete facility improvements for schools and a county park. Staff said the funding will allow the School Board to proceed with a construction contract for the auditorium addition and move forward on athletic- and park-related improvements.
What’s next: the School Board will proceed with contract award for the auditorium addition; staff will manage design, procurement and construction phases for the school and park projects under existing capital project procedures.
