Kootenai County commissioners assign liaisons for elected officials to streamline communication

At a Jan. 15 meeting, the Kootenai County Board of Commissioners assigned liaison responsibilities for elected officials to help manage procedural requests and agenda items.
Commissioner Duncan said the assignments are intended to make it easier for elected officials to route procedural questions or requests for agenda placement without preventing direct contact with any commissioner. "If you've got something that needs to be on an agenda, you've got some procedural question... you just reach out to your liaison," Duncan said.
Under the arrangement, Chair Metairie will serve as liaison for district judges and the treasurer; Commissioner Duncan will liaise with the coroner and the sheriff; and Commissioner Eberlein will cover the assessor, the county clerk and the prosecuting attorney. Duncan said he will contact his assigned elected officials to learn their preferred methods of contact and establish a streamlined process.
The board emphasized the liaison system is voluntary and intended only to avoid overloading a single commissioner with outreach. No formal vote was taken; the item was discussed as a procedural update during the meeting.
