The Riley County Commission voted on Jan. 13 to return a set of bids for tandem-axle dump trucks to county staff for review and recommendation.
County staff presented multiple bids from vendors across the Midwest. The lowest complete bid reported in the presentation was $130,348 from Truck Center Companies (Salina, Kansas) with an estimated delivery date listed as June 1, 2025. Another bid from Master Tech Truck and Equipment (Wichita) had a base price of $174,143; an optional extended warranty of $18,211 would raise that total. A higher-price bid that included additional equipment and alternates was presented at $283,589.50 with delivery about 90 days after approval. Several other bids were shown with delivery estimates ranging from June to August 2025.
Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to return the bids to staff for a technical review and recommendation. The motion passed by unanimous vote. Staff will evaluate chassis availability, warranty options, delivery schedules, required snow‑removal and spreader equipment, and total lifecycle cost and return with a recommendation to the commission for award.
No final vendor selection or contract award was made at the Jan. 13 meeting.
