Phil Hofstetter, chief executive officer of Petersburg Medical Center, told the borough assembly on Jan. 6 that work on the new facility resumed after a brief holiday pause and remains on budget and on schedule for a summer 2025 opening. Hofstetter said monthly facility tours will resume and that the hospital's financial audit was completed with no tentative findings, citing grant revenue and higher patient volumes as factors in recent fiscal strength.
Hofstetter said staffing continues to be a challenge and that the hospital is coordinating with borough staff to explore assistance and partnership opportunities. He also noted preparation for the upcoming state legislative session to advocate for capital and infrastructure funding tied to the new facility.
The assembly and hospital board are scheduled to hold a joint work session on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the assembly chambers to discuss financial planning, capital improvement needs and comprehensive plans for health care; the mayor read the relevant charter requirement that such a public work session be held at least once a year for coordination between the two boards. No action was taken at the Jan. 6 assembly meeting beyond receiving the hospital report.
