Cedar Hill council hears calendar items, announces memorial and lists upcoming meetings and consent items

The city manager reviewed calendar items at the Feb. 11 Cedar Hill City Council briefing and announced the death and upcoming services for former councilman and volunteer firefighter General Greg Patton.
The city manager said Patton's visitation is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. and his memorial service follows at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Hill Church of Christ; the city will have a presence from the police and fire departments. The manager noted Patton had served on the 1975 charter committee when the city became a home-rule city and said the social media team will post remembrances.
The manager also reviewed upcoming public events and meetings, including a seniors presentation by the mayor and council at the Cedar Hill Senior Activity Center on Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.; a special called council meeting Feb. 18 at the Traphine Hickman Library to discuss strategic plan action items; the Cedar Police Department annual banquet on Feb. 21 at the Allen E. Sims Recreation Center; the CHISD State of the District at the Maddox Teaching and Learning Center on Feb. 26 at 11 a.m.; and the State of the City on Feb. 27 at the Allen E. Sims Recreation Center (tickets were reported as sold out).
The manager summarized consent-docket items listed for council consideration at the regular meeting: minutes from January; a resolution supporting a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program application to replace outdoor warning sirens; a site plan case (SP660-420) generally located on the southeast corner of Jules Way and Cedar View (recommended for approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission); and two construction contracts for installation of a signal light at Norcho Wilson and Calvert Drive (EAR Telecommunications LLC) and for pedestrian-signal accessibility improvements at West Beltline Road and Main Street (Texas Standard Construction). The manager said the signal-light work has been on the capital improvement plan for several years.
The manager also reminded council of community events such as the Sherry Borth pancake breakfast and a secure paper-shredding event at the government center.
