Pacific View open house draws about 500; staff reports program updates, scholarship donation and registration help

Cultural Arts staff told the Encinitas Cultural Arts Commission that Pacific View’s recent open house drew roughly 500 people and generated strong class registrations, and staff outlined next steps for programming, public-art installations and donor-funded scholarships.
“About 500 people showed up on a beautiful day and had a great time,” Colette, a cultural arts staff member, reported. Staff said Pacific View’s facility hours have been extended to 5 p.m. to accommodate after-school programs and weekend availability. Spring-session and summer-camp programming deadlines were described as imminent and staff said registration activity was strong.
Staff reported multiple upcoming public-art installations. A donated sculpture by Adey Moorehouse (donor name as recorded in meeting) is slated for late January; two loan-program sculptures requiring special pedestals were expected to be installed in February. The sculpture “Neptune Junior” was referenced as a loan-program installation in discussion.
Commissioners and staff discussed a $10,000 scholarship offer from the EFA announced at the Pacific View grand opening; staff said they will meet with EFA this week to clarify how the funds will be administered and expected an update at the February commission meeting. Colette said that when donations are designated for a specific purpose (for example, scholarships), the city places the funds into a dedicated donation account and uses them only for the intended purpose.
Staff also described a partnership with Vet Arts to run free arts-in-parks programming in Encinitas, expected to run through October or November 2025. The program would offer 2–3 weekly sessions of two-to-three hours each, serving about five to ten participants per session depending on the activity, and would be offered at no charge once final agreement terms are completed.
On registration logistics, staff provided a registration phone number (760-943-2160) and explained that a participant waiver is required for class registration; over-the-phone registration may be complicated because the waiver often requires a digital or in-person signature. Staff advised callers with registration issues to contact the Pacific View desk for account assistance to avoid duplicate accounts in ActiveNet.
Staff also reported sales for the January 24 Music by the Sea concert have surpassed 100 tickets and flagged upcoming Wednesday concert programming and other seasonal events. Staff committed to notifying commissioners by email when specific sculpture installation dates are finalized so commissioners can attend.
