Commissioners accept juvenile justice financial report; director says security camera project planned

A Justice Services presenter described the fund composition — Juvenile Corrections Act funds, Tobacco Tax funds and Lottery Tax funds — and said the department has approximately $261,341 in available funds. The presenter said the department plans a four-phase replacement of its security camera system, with a rough project estimate of about $200,000; staff said they are awaiting one more bid before returning to the board for formal approval of that capital expenditure.
During public comment, county resident Doug Patterson asked what the total spending for the juvenile justice program had been in the prior year. The presenter said they did not have that historical number available at the meeting and offered to provide it later, but confirmed the department’s planned spending for the upcoming project.
The board approved the motion to file the financial report as prepared by the county auditors. The vote was recorded in the transcript as yes votes from members present.
Staff noted that although the fund balance appears sizeable, much of it is earmarked for the planned capital project, and the department will return with bids and an itemized request when procurement options are finalized.
