The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 7 formally swore in Supervisor Rich Desmond as the representative for the 3rd Supervisorial District and Supervisor Rosario Rodriguez as the representative for the 4th Supervisorial District.
Desmond, sworn in by Lisa Desmond, thanked supporters and outlined three priorities he said he ran on four years earlier: addressing homelessness, repairing roads and transportation infrastructure in unincorporated areas, and increasing the county voice for residents outside city limits. “When it comes to homelessness, we’ve dramatically improved coordination with the city of Sacramento,” Desmond said, adding that the board has expanded shelters and resources and is planning a “very large shelter project in District 3.” He also said the county has committed general fund dollars to road maintenance and pledged to continue pressing for more roadway improvements.
Rodriguez, sworn in by her mother and family members, thanked campaign supporters and county staff and laid out priorities similar to Desmond’s. “As I mentioned, I think the issues are truly, as Rich has mentioned, homelessness, transportation-related issues, public safety and economic development for the county,” Rodriguez said. She described meeting county departments during a transition period and said she was “very excited to get to work.”
Both supervisors thanked county employees, department leaders and family members who joined the ceremonial event. The board recessed after the swearing-in ceremonies for a reception and returned to business later in the meeting.
The ceremonies were held at the Sacramento County Administration Center and were part of the board’s regular public meeting, which was broadcast on Metro Cable 14 and livestreamed.
