District outlines assessment plan, virtual‑learning renewal and full‑day kindergarten transition

Curriculum and instruction staff presented the Cornwall‑Lebanon School District’s assessment calendar, detailed the district’s five‑year curriculum revision cycle and described pending agreements and program transitions at the Feb. 20 work session.
Dr. Susan Weiss said year three of the district’s five‑year curriculum review focuses on assessments. "We identify whether our assessments are summative, formative, diagnostic, or benchmark assessments," she said, adding the district is evaluating assessment design, alignment and validity to avoid over‑testing.
Weiss described district assessment tools and schedules: Exact Path (Edmentum) diagnostic assessments in grades 3–8 for math and reading (up to three times per year), Study Island benchmark assessments twice per year in grades 3–8 and plans to add benchmark exams aligned to Keystone subjects (biology, Algebra I and literature) at the high school. She also noted Acadience is used as an early‑reading screener in elementary grades and that principals and building data teams review multiple assessment sources to guide instruction.
Separately, the administration said it will present a proposed three‑year renewal (2025–2028) of the Lancaster Lebanon Virtual Solutions (LLVS) agreement for approval. The district currently has 146 students participating in LLVS. The administration described LLVS and its partner CAOLA (Capital Area Online Learning Association) as providing multiple platform choices and pathways including dual enrollment and career‑and‑technical education courses.
On kindergarten, administrators reminded families that orientation sessions will be held April 10 at each elementary school, with registration appointments scheduled in May and a transition to full‑day kindergarten beginning with the 2025–26 school year. The personnel section later noted staffing adjustments tied to the full‑day transition, including moving two current part‑time kindergarten teachers to full time and ongoing planning meetings to finalize the full‑day schedule.
The board was asked to approve revisions to district policy CLSD 01/27 (assessment system) at the next regular meeting; policy revisions and the LLVS agreement were presented for consideration, not final action, at the work session.
