The Westland City Council approved an application for a Class C on‑premise liquor license, an SDM license with Sunday sales and an entertainment permit for 30712 Michigan Avenue LLC — the business operating as Eloise Asylum at 30712 Michigan Avenue.
The applicant’s representative, Seth Tompkins, spoke for owner John Hambrick, who was not present because he was ill. Tompkins said the owner intends to operate a small bar and continue hosting events at the venue, which has previously hosted corporate and seasonal events. “I think right now, the idea is just to get the small bar open at the front and then see where it goes from there,” Tompkins said.
Director Garza told the council that before the vote the city held six on‑premise licenses; if the council approved the application the city would have five remaining quota licenses. City Attorney Steve Faso explained that a Class C license is the on‑premise license and an SDM license permits limited packaged sales such as beer or wine to‑go.
Council members asked about food service and security; Tompkins said there is no food preparation planned on site and that catering would serve events as needed. He also said the operator has a security staff and will train employees on liquor‑sales responsibilities.
Council members voiced support for the application and thanked the proprietor for investing in the city. The council approved the licenses; the clerk announced the motion carried with no recorded dissent.
