Geithner said she supports policies she believes better reflect “family values” and that county staff should seek to identify where state law limits local implementation and, if needed, pursue remedies at the state level.
Commissioner Kim (spoken comment identified in the transcript) and Commissioner Wysong also voiced support for the resolution and emphasized enforcement of federal immigration laws and concern about the state’s sanctuary-type limits on local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
The resolution was moved and seconded and passed on a roll call vote: Commissioner Weisong — aye; Commissioner Applegate — aye; Vice Chair Christian Williams — aye; Chair Carrie Geithner — aye. The vote was 4–0 as recorded; one commissioner had earlier participated online and was excused from a procedural vote related to another item but participated in the discussion on this resolution.
