Separately, the council considered a draft letter to state Senator Josh Becker supporting legislative work to amend the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA) so that jurisdictions below a certain population would be exempt from mandatory district elections. The council amended the draft letter to add a paragraph noting the city’s costs from recent recalls; the amended letter was approved with Mayor Fung abstaining.
