Council clarifies roof-height language and approves item 19 findings

Meridian City Council on Dec. 3 approved item 19 and accepted a memorandum from the applicant clarifying roof-height parameters in the project findings. The clarification, added to the public record, explains how eave and peak heights should be measured for buildings with sloped roofs.

Planning staff summarized the clarification in the memo: for the two-story building the eave is at 20 feet and the peak rises to approximately 34 feet, and the applicant requested that if a peaked roof is used it would change applicable height measurements and variations. Staff said they could prepare a revised Exhibit A to reflect the clarified language for signature.

"In the memo it speaks to, if you recall, the elevations were going to be a sloped roof on the 2 story building. And so the eave of the structure is at 20 feet, and as you travel up to the peak of the structure, it goes up to 34 feet," planning staff said, describing the record addition.

Councilmember Desmond Taylor, who made the original motion on the item, told the council he reviewed the memo and the hearing record and said the clarification matched his intent when he moved the original approval. "I'm in agreement with the clarification as presented in the memo," Taylor said.

The council voted to approve item 19 with the memo added to the record. The vote was taken following a motion by Councilman Desmond Taylor and passed without recorded opposition.

The city attorney and planning staff indicated they would incorporate the clarified language into the formal exhibit and finalize the findings for signature.
