The Nassau County School Board on Jan. 9 voted unanimously to approve multiple development mitigation agreements and facility contracts and to table a proposal on workshop scheduling and live streaming.
Superintendent Dr. Burns recommended approval of three mitigation (concurrency) agreements tied to new residential developments and identified the number and type of units for each project. The board approved:
- A mitigation (concurrency) agreement for "Wildlife Parcel 5D," described by staff as located in "Newley North," covering 124 townhome units; the motion passed 5-0. Dr. Burns presented the agreement and recommended approval.
- A mitigation (concurrency) agreement for "Maxine Street," described as within the city of Fernandina Beach, covering 48 single-family units; the motion passed 5-0.
- A mitigation (concurrency) agreement for "Cook Uley," described as in "Uley South," covering 35 single-family units. Dr. Burns said the Cook Uley mitigation would affect schools in the local UE area (elementary, middle and high) and the motion passed 5-0.
The board also approved two facility-related actions:
- Approval of the contract to replace the roof on Building 1 at Callahan Elementary School; the motion passed 5-0.
- Approval of District-wide boiler project change order number 2; the motion passed 5-0.
Board members debated whether to establish a regular schedule for workshops that would be streamed, noting technical and notice requirements for the streaming vendor. Board members directed staff to collect scheduling information; after discussion the board voted to table the workshop-scheduling item until a January workshop and the next board meeting. The motion to table passed unanimously.
The board adopted the consent agenda earlier in the meeting with amendments (including adjustments to personnel effective dates and removal of certain minutes items), and then proceeded to the action items listed above.
