Ken Peterson and Vince Chavez, executive producers of Bands of Enchantment, described the program to the City Council on Jan. 22 as a multi-part initiative combining a global marketing campaign, live events, job training and a platform for Albuquerque artists.
Peterson said Bands of Enchantment has four goals: global marketing for Albuquerque, live events, jobs and training for local residents and championing local artists. “Bands of Enchantment is a postcard from Albuquerque to the world,” he said. Producers showed a short video and distributed a written handout describing the series and invited councilors to a red-carpet premiere.
Speakers at the dais, including Councilor Champine and Councilor Baca, praised the program’s community and training components and encouraged staff to consider future support requests. Councilor Champine said the series brings “energy and community spirit,” and Councilor Baca urged the council to support the program if formal requests are submitted.
Why it matters: Producers framed the series as an economic and cultural development tool — promoting local artists, delivering on-the-job training for film and production students and creating promotional content that can be used to market Albuquerque. Producers and partners said the program has received awards and provides opportunities for young technicians and students.
What’s next: The producers invited council members and staff to the season-4 red-carpet premiere and left handouts with more details about partnerships and training opportunities.
