The Westland City Council unanimously confirmed Bill Gabriel to the Police and Fire Retirement Board to fill an unexpired term that expires Sept. 26, 2026.

Council members moved quickly on the appointment during new business. City administration introduced Gabriel and noted his prior service on the Wayne-Westland School Board, as board president of the William Faust Library, on the Westland Planning Commission and as the city’s controller and purchasing director from 2009 to 2012.

“Mr. Gabriel has a long, distinguished history with the city of Westland,” a representative of city administration said during the presentation, listing Gabriel’s prior municipal roles and thanking him for his willingness to serve. There was no further discussion. The motion passed without dissent and Gabriel was asked to stand and be recognized.

The appointment fills an existing vacancy on the Retirement Board; no additional implementation steps were specified.
