Germantown resident urges city to widen, add lighting and shoulders on Forest Hill Road

Dr. Dwayne Gaither, a longtime Germantown resident, asked the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Feb. 10 to move quickly on safety improvements for Forest Hill Road, saying the narrow roadway and roadside trees have contributed to fatal and nonfatal crashes.
"There are more than 90 trees just on the east side of the road that are within 15 feet of the pavement that have a diameter of more than 12 inches and some of the larger ones are within 1 foot of the pavement," Dr. Gaither said during the citizens-to-be-heard portion of the meeting. "There is no lighting at night and when it is raining, visibility is very restricted. There are no safety shoulders."
