Board approves consent agenda, HD Carnes building‑code application and 2026–27 calendar; all votes 7–0

The Board of Education for Geary County Schools (USD 475) approved the meeting agenda, a multi-item consent agenda, a request to apply for a separate building code for HD Carnes for the 2025–26 school year, and school calendar option B for 2026–27 during the evening meeting. All roll-call votes recorded at the meeting were 7 to 0 in favor.

The board opened formal business by approving the meeting agenda. “I move the approval of the agenda,” was the motion (vote recorded: “Motion carries 7 to 0”). The consent agenda — which the board described to include minutes, the treasurer’s report, student activity accounts, bills, personnel reports, requests to receive or apply for grants, approval of out-of-state travel requests (including JCHS music, JROTC, FFA), vehicle purchases, and other standard items — was later moved and seconded and approved by a 7–0 vote.

On a separate action, teaching and learning staff asked the board to approve submitting an application for a distinct building code for HD Carnes for the 2025–26 school year. The board moved and seconded the request and the motion carried, 7–0.

The board also considered a recommended academic calendar for the 2026–27 school year. District staff reported that the teachers’ association vote favored calendar option B (53.9% of voting teachers). A motion to approve calendar option B for 2026–27 passed by a 7–0 vote.

The board recessed into executive session to discuss employer–employee negotiations under the Kansas Open Meeting Act; the board announced the session and later returned to open session and adjourned.

The meeting minutes log each of the above votes as unanimous (7–0). The board did not record any “nay” votes on the motions described at the meeting.
