Hermosa Beach City School District board approves 2025–26 calendar, bond certification, oversight committee and service contracts
Summary
The Hermosa Beach City School District Board of Education received a midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan update for 2024'25 and Superintendent Susan Wilds presented a 100'day entry summary outlining short'term actions on staffing, curriculum adoption and student social'emotional needs.
The Hermosa Beach City School District Board of Education approved a package of routine and bond-related items during its public meeting, including adoption of the 2025–26 school calendar, certification of the November 5, 2024 general obligation bond election proceedings, formation of a citizens oversight committee for Measure HV, and multiple consultant and service contracts.
The board unanimously adopted the proposed 2025–26 calendar. Board member Rachel moved to approve the calendar; Carol seconded the motion. The board voted in favor with all members present voting aye; staff said the calendar would be distributed to families the next morning at 8 a.m.
The board approved Resolution 10:24/25 certifying to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors the district's proceedings in the Nov. 5, 2024 general obligation bond election. Staff told the board the next step is submission to the county, which will complete ministerial review and provide billing for election costs. The resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by unanimous vote.
The board also adopted Resolution 12:24/25 establishing the Measure HV Citizens'Oversight Committee and approving amended bylaws to carry oversight work forward. Staff said some Measure S committee members will continue and that vacancies will be advertised to the public with designations (for example, parent or community member) specified in recruitment materials. The motion carried on a unanimous vote.
Contracts and consultant approvals passed on consent or by vote. The board approved a consultant agreement for an owner's representative (Nancy Bartolo, Public Education Consultants) to support Measure S and state matching-dollar projects; a consultant agreement to provide occupational therapy assessment services (Gwen Oliker) for a student for the 2024'25 school year; and a contract to allow Assistant Principal Allison Montoya to complete CLEAR induction and administrative credential clearance through LACOE. Staff recommended each item and the board approved them unanimously.
During closed session the board reported it approved releasing five temporary teachers and approved a resolution referenced in closed session. The meeting report stated the roll-call vote for that closed-session action recorded each member as voting "yes." The board reported the action at the open meeting.
Other procedural items approved included the 2023'24 school accountability report cards for Hermosa View, Vista and Hermosa Valley schools (a routine requirement under the California Education Code) and the board's selected five delegates for the 2025 California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly for Region 24; the slate of five names presented was approved by vote.
