Board approves $3,750 credit, hears construction update for Bath County High School

The Bath County Board of Education on Feb. 17 approved an owner-requested credit of $3,750 for a rooftop HVAC unit related to the Bath County High School renovation project (BG22-376).

Construction manager David (last name not provided) told the board the credit reflects a decision not to replace one rooftop unit near the gym. A brand-new unit that had already been ordered will be turned over to the district for use elsewhere, David said, and the credit covers the labor and removal work that will not be performed. The board approved the change order motion (PR-28) on a motion by Carla, seconded by Kim; members indicated approval by voice and the motion carried.

David also updated the board on the construction schedule and remaining balances. He said work identified as “phase 9” is scheduled to begin March 1 and includes lobbies, two entrances, restrooms and offices, plus new doors and frames at the former main entrance. He reported remaining balances in project accounts, saying there is “like $230,000” on one project and about $178,000 on another, and that the layback/storm-drainage project is largely complete.

The board discussed that one smaller rooftop mini-split unit will be handed to the district while only one larger unit will be fully replaced. David noted that contingency funding for the high-school project is being drawn down as the work nears completion and that the contractor could not return the brand-new ordered unit, so it will be transferred to the district.

Board members had no further questions before voting to approve the change order credit.

The board also approved related construction paperwork and will receive additional itemized budget and design details at future meetings as project phases progress.
