Council renames Britton Place to Strauss Place, retains Southern Place name after public comment

Commissioner Moran and other officials said the city conducted outreach and research with the engineering department and the city historian and planned further work by the records department and historians to document street-name histories. Council discussion clarified that Southern Place will remain unchanged; the ordinance changing Britton Place to Strauss Place covers the segment from Lake Avenue.
Council members said the Downtown Business Association and the city plan to coordinate a spring event to unveil new signage and other honoraria connected with the renaming.
The council closed the public hearing and approved the ordinance 5-0.
