During the superintendent nd data briefing, education consultant Kara explained that MAP is a growth diagnostic administered multiple times per year that adapts question difficulty to each student, while STAAR is a summative, end-of-year test that gives every student the same items to measure grade-level mastery. "MAP is a diagnostic. It's not a curriculum. It's to get a benchmark or a baseline of where you're at," Kara said. "STAAR . . . is measuring grade-level knowledge and skills at the end of the year."
