The Maricopa County Board of Adjustment on Jan. 16, 2025, re-elected Chairman Loper and selected Vice Chair Person to continue in their leadership roles, both by unanimous roll-call votes.
The votes came early in the Jan. 16 meeting after nominations from board members. Member Ward nominated Chairman Loper to remain chair; the nomination was seconded and approved in a roll call in which Member Carden, Member Clapp, Member Ward, Vice Chair Person and Chairman Loper all voted yes. Later, Member Carden nominated Vice Chair Person for vice chair; that nomination also passed by roll call with the same five affirmative votes.
Board members and the chair framed the elections as continuity for the coming year while briefly discussing the idea of rotating leadership in future years. Chairman Loper noted he has served on the board for 12 years and said he would welcome a rotation “perhaps next year” as new board members join other county bodies. Loper also reminded meeting participants that the session had been noticed under Arizona’s open meeting law, citing ARS 38-431.B, and that agendas are available from the Maricopa County Planning and Development Office and online.
The board also approved the minutes for Nov. 14 and Dec. 12, 2024, with no revisions noted, and staff announced that case BA240024 had been withdrawn, so no action was required on that item.
The meeting proceeded to the regular agenda after the elections and routine housekeeping items; the board adjourned later in the morning and confirmed scheduling notes for subsequent meetings.
