Cherokee County commissioners approve consent items, contracts, vehicle purchase and update animal control ordinance

At its Feb. 4 meeting the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved the consent agenda, a County Manager package of procurement and capital items (all unanimous), and an amendment to the county’s animal control ordinance extending reimbursement rules for impoundment costs.
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved a package of routine and budget items Feb. 4, including grant administration, budget amendments, SPLOST‑funded construction contracts, equipment purchases and an update to the county’s animal control ordinance. All items passed unanimously.
Items approved on the consent agenda included asset surplus requests from IT and Clerk of Courts, a $46,191 budget amendment to the Clerk of Courts budget from the Georgia Superior Court Clerk’s Cooperative Authority, and authorization for Cherokee Focus to act as fiscal agent for a Department of Human Services grant of $52,000 for state fiscal year 2026 (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026). The board also authorized an FTA authorizing resolution for transit grant applications and scheduled public hearings on a portion of Morris Road abandonment, a Bridgetown Development zoning modification request and proposed updates to the county livestock and animal shelter fee ordinances.
The board approved a County Manager package of six individually considered items (each motion passed unanimously):
- Amendment to Article II, Section 27C of the Cherokee County Code of Ordinances (animal control): the board approved language extending the county’s ability to seek reimbursement for impoundment costs, boarding and veterinary care to all properly impounded animals rather than limiting reimbursement to criminal cases. The board held a public hearing on the item on Jan. 21 and postponed final action to Feb. 4.
- Tree replacement contract (Etowah Valley Estates): award to Arbor and Sage Inc. for installation of 25 replacement trees in the entrance islands, amount $29,700, funded from tree replacement funds; homeowners responsible for maintenance after one‑year vendor warranty expires.
- Network switch replacement (IT): approval to purchase replacement network switch equipment, amount $39,794.61, includes required three‑year licenses; equipment end‑of‑life scheduled for Oct. 2026 so replacement is budgeted this fiscal year to allow lead time for configuration and installation.
- Asphalt rehabilitation/crack sealing: award to Deep South Industrial Services Inc. for crack sealing and asphalt repairs on approximately 38 lane miles (including Sixes Road, Eagle Drive and Towne Lake Parkway), amount $324,879.57, funded by SPLOST.
- Turnout gear storage build‑out: award to APEC Electrical Contracts Inc. to build out storage containers for turnout gear at Fire Stations 11 and 18 and the Fire Training Center, amount $64,030, SPLOST funded; project follows accreditation guidance to remove personal protective equipment from unvented bay areas.
- Vehicle purchase for the Solicitor’s Office: approval to purchase a 2025 Honda CR‑V from Hennessy Honda, amount $32,089; the purchase was budgeted in the Solicitor’s FY2025 budget.
All consent and County Manager motions were moved and seconded as listed in the meeting record and carried without recorded opposition.
