Alvin Lee, an Oakdale resident, used the public comment period at the Feb. 18 council meeting to urge the city to address a large feral cat colony along the river that he said is affecting nearby yards and gardens.
"These feral cats are a nuisance," Alvin Lee said, explaining that animals have defecated in gardens and damaged bird populations. He said he and his neighbors had contacted animal control and the pound but were unable to resolve the issue, and that people who feed the cats were not limiting reproduction.
Mayor Pro Tem Smith asked Lee to leave contact information with the city clerk so staff and the chief of police could set up a meeting to gather more information. Staff directed Lee to provide his contact information to Colleen so the city manager and police could follow up.
No formal action was taken; staff said they would investigate and meet with the resident to determine next steps.
