A Contractors State License Board licensing-division representative said the board now issues a "tribal business license" in addition to LLCs, corporations and partnerships.
The representative said, "we now license tribal businesses as well." The representative added that the board has an "authorized testing vendor" for exams and that "beginning in January, all fees for the examinations are paid directly to them." The board will notify applicants by letter with the vendor's contact information when the application advances to testing.
On timing and background checks, the representative explained applicants are prompted to complete a live-scan packet after the application is accepted and referred to testing: "you will be prompted when to complete the live scan ... it is one of the last steps that you'll do prior to having a license issued." The representative also said applicants have up to 18 months to complete required testing once approved to test and have 90 days after passing to submit issuance requirements (bond, workers' compensation, initial fee) before the license offer would void.
The representative directed applicants to contact the testing vendor (PSI) to reschedule exams and provided the vendor's phone number in the presentation materials.
Less urgent details: the representative said the tribal-business option on the CSLB application is on the business-entities page and that the current law specifically addresses California tribes; applicants from Alaska or other special cases were asked to contact licensing for guidance.
