Indian Trail reports CRTPO funding wins for intersection project; seeks shortfall funding for Complete Street work

Council members and staff reported progress on regional transportation grant requests to the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO).

Councilmember Hunsinger said the town submitted two projects to CRTPO’s discretionary fall call: an intersection project (Stinson & Harris / Indian Trail Fairview & Yachts Road) and a request for shortfall funding on the Indian Trail Complete Street project after adding the fourth leg of a roundabout. He said the CRTPO oversight committee recommended funding for the intersection project and that MPO and TCC votes are pending but he did not anticipate issues in March.

Hunsinger described a target funding figure that had been discussed previously as about $10,500,000 (a 50/50 federal/local match concept) and reported the recommended award for the intersection project as approximately $10.462768 million (speaker’s phrasing in the meeting). For the Complete Street shortfall, the town’s initial request was $1.8 million; through the submission process that request was adjusted to $1.65 million. Hunsinger said the shortfall request would follow an 80/20 split with the federal share covering roughly $1.3 million and the town’s share estimated at $330,400.

Hunsinger said nearly all jurisdictions that applied for CRTPO discretionary funds received partial or full funding and that the oversight committee’s recommendation should proceed to TCC and MPO for final allocation next month. Council discussion noted the town will continue to monitor the formal TCC/MPO votes and that the staff will return with final figures and next steps.
