Kane County appoints two members to tourism tax advisory board

The Kane County Commission unanimously approved Resolution R2025-3 on Jan. 14 appointing Alan Bate and Ashley Heaton to the Kane County Tourism Tax Advisory Board (KCTTAP).
Commissioner Patty Cabeza explained the board is required by state statute to advise on expenditures of tourism tax revenues — derived from short-term rentals and certain restaurant taxes — and that board membership includes representatives from the hotel and restaurant industries, public lands and tourism operators. Board members are subject to term limits: the appointees’ two-year terms will run through Dec. 31, 2026, as announced at the meeting.
Alan Bate was appointed to represent public lands interests and was described by commissioners as having experience working with the Bureau of Land Management and local tourism-related volunteer efforts. Ashley Heaton was appointed as a restaurant-business representative; commissioners noted she is a part-owner of a local restaurant and has experience with Southwest Behavioral Health.
There was no public testimony for the appointments during the public hearing. The motion to appoint both individuals passed unanimously.
