Oakdale Public Library lists February programs; VITA tax assistance returns weekly

Brent Lowe of the Oakdale Public Library updated the council on February programs and services, including children's and teen crafts, computer classes, regular story times and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program that offers free tax preparation for seniors and low-income residents.
Lowe listed the library's schedule: Lego play days on several dates, a Valentine's Day craft, a teen and adult kaleidoscope craft, Master Gardener presentations, preschool story time on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., and Wiggle Worms programs for children ages 0–3 on Thursdays. The library is running a "blind date with a book" promotion through Feb. 13 and is scheduling computer classes for beginners and an Excel class on a Saturday.
The VITA tax-preparation service runs on Thursdays from about 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment and is intended for seniors and low-income residents. Lowe said the VITA program has been in place in the area for many years and that an outside organization provides the tax-preparation service at the library.
Lowe thanked local organizations that support the library, including the Friends of the Library, the Lions Club and the Rotary Club, and noted local sales tax support the library receives. He said most small classes are limited to about four participants and invited volunteers to join the Friends group that supports library activities.
