Board approves purchasing slate including five-year lease renewal for State Fair property; business administrator posts annual rent figures

The Belleville Board of Education approved a package of purchasing and business-service resolutions on Feb. 24, including a five-year lease renewal to continue using State Fair property for district purposes (agenda item 12.8). Public commenter Michael Sheldon had asked earlier in the meeting for details about the lease that were not included on the agenda, saying the agenda did not show annual amounts or escalation terms. Business Administrator Thomas Paladino read the annual rent figures into the record and said he would post a copy of the contract for public review via the district's board materials.
Paladino recited the five annual amounts on the record (rent shown as totals per year): Year 1 (Feb. 1, 2025'Jan. 31, 2026) -- $285,600; Year 2 (Feb. 1, 2026'Jan. 31, 2027) -- $294,168; Year 3 (Feb. 1, 2027'Jan. 31, 2028) -- $302,993; Year 4 (Feb. 1, 2028'Jan. 31, 2029) -- $311,083; Year 5 (Feb. 1, 2029'Jan. 31, 2030) -- $320,415. He said those figures apply to the first phase covering the first five classrooms the district established under the original arrangement.
Paladino emphasized the lease payments are funded from PEA (preschool education aid) funds. He told a public commenter that he had a copy of the contract and would make it available for public viewing.
The board approved the purchasing resolutions by roll call during the meeting. Purchasing and business-service resolutions numbered in the 12.x series (12 through 12.43) were moved and seconded and passed by recorded vote.
