HR director reports 2024 recruitment activity, cites 288 vacancies in Mendocino County

Human Resources provided an annual report to the Mendocino County Civil Service Commission on Feb. 19, summarizing recruitment and personnel activity for 2024 and noting current vacancies as of Dec. 31.
HR manager Cal Satoran presented the HR director’s report and said the department processed hundreds of transactions and recruitments last year. “Human resources processed 612 staffing requisitions, coordinated 404 recruitments, screened and processed 4,370 applications, conducted 301 examinations, responded to 1 exam appeal, and 50 application appeals,” Satoran said. He also reported that HR processed 1,285 personnel transactions in the year, which included 196 new hires and 218 separations.
Satoran told the commission that, as of Dec. 31, 2024, there were 288 vacant positions in the county with active recruitment to fill 12 positions. He also reported the Civil Service Commission convened eight times in 2024 (six regular sessions and two special sessions) and that HR brought 44 classification studies, seven probationary period extension requests and one disciplinary hearing to the commission during the year.
The report highlighted HR’s “Coffee with HR” outreach series launched in 2024, intended to improve staff education and accessibility to HR resources. Commissioners praised HR’s activity levels during the year and expressed appreciation for the department’s work; no action was required on the report.
The commission adjourned at 9:25 a.m.
